Sicky Sunday turned Marvelous Monday

So, the dreaded 2017 stomach flu has hit my house.  Some fun things you might have missed if you haven't been blessed with this:

  1. Only wear things that are completely washable.  (Including shoes)
  2. It does NOT matter that you are a teacher, there are some that still cannot handle vomit including me!
  3. Children who are sick can sleep all day but when bedtime comes they become nocturnal!
I though I would share a few tips to help you stay healthy when the flu is running rampant!

REST
As teachers it is very difficult not to over extend ourselves and get the flu bug ourselves.  Rest is not just about sitting and doing nothing, its also about finding activities that help you revive yourself for a stressful week. Here is a book that is actually based on a teachers experience of getting warn out and how he fixed it by spending time with family.  It is filled with great ideas.

There are some articles floating that suggest that Grape Juice might actually help.  I am going to attach some articles that suggest it will help but I cannot guarantee.  However, my son currently has the stomach flu and I am drinking Grape Juice so if this works, you will be the first to know.

Water

Stay hydrated!  Water is a great way to flush your body.

Healthy Eating

I am not the best at this one because I LOVE chocolate.  Especially after Valentines Day and my sweet kiddos gave me all kinds of chocolatey goodies!  Anyway, eating a healthy diet is one of the best ways to avoid any type of sickness.

These are just a few suggestion from me and I would love to know your suggestions for staying healthy!  I can't wait to hear your comments!

Grammar Stumpers

This week in our unit of study we are working on Adjectives and Adverbs.  I have been teaching for 5 years and parts of speech still stump me at times.  Which word in the adjective? Which word is the adverb? Can I even tell the difference?

More importantly, how can I help my students understand the difference?  How can I make it fun and engaging for them so that they will remember it?  Here are a few helpful tips....

Adverbs

Just FYI, They have all parts of speech and even though they are old, my students love that they have a great beat.

What better way to help kids than to give them anchor charts that they can relate back to all the time. I've attached a few from Pinterest.

Last but not least, lets check to see that your students understand with this great Literacy Learning Station.  Here is an Adjective and Adverb sort including a worksheet at the end.

Leave me some of your ideas about teaching Grammar.  I can't wait to see all those great ideas!

Money Monday

As I have began a new adventure with second grade I have noticed that my students are really struggling with money.  What better way to learn to count change than to have students get moving and play some Money Games.

This interactive pack includes 3 different games that your students will be raving about for weeks.  This includes:
- Write the room (with amounts)
- Match the money to the correct amount
- Match the money to the correct number sentence
These all come with corresponding worksheets to ensure mastery of this skill.

I know my kiddo's are going to love this interactive practice tool!  Hope yours enjoy too!

Wacky Word Wednesday

As I am beginning a new adventure this year by switching grade levels I have been desperately seeking new ideas to engage my students.  I have been thinking a lot about spelling words.  I had a parent tell me last year "My child really loves first grade but he gets tired of the same repetitive spelling homework.  Write the word __ times, write in a color.  etc. etc."

This really got me thinking.  Part of my evaluation is giving students choices.  An idea hit me:

Why not let the children pick what they want to do with their spelling words.

So here it is:  Spelling Word Cafe!

Students get to pick what they want to do.  They are still practicing their words, they just get to choose how.  As long as they are practicing and doing well with the words, what could it hurt?

If you follow the blog, then I will send the cafe to your email as a freebie.  Hope to see great followers and lots of ideas.

Selfie Sunday

I thought today would be a great day to introduce myself and my new blog!  My name is Rebekah Swain, I am a wife, a mom, and a school teacher.  I love making Teachers Pay Teachers Products but I love my family more.

I spend lots of "spare time" with my son Liam and husband Matthew.  They are truly my pride and joy!  I love spending time outside and doing lots of activities.  I am super excited to see where this blog can take me!

I hope you view my store and follow the blog to see awesome innovative ideas!
